Two public meetings are planned that effect local residents. A public hearing will be held on March 24 to discuss a rule to modify the speed limit on U.S. Highway 12 in and around the east side of Ipswich. The proposed rule would extend the 30 miles per hour speed limit on the east edge of Ipswich. South Dakota lawmakers are redrawing the state’s political boundaries. Every year after the Census is completed, the state’s Legislature is constitutionally required to redraw its legislative district boundaries to accommodate shifts in population and ensure equal representation to all South Dakotans. The Ipswich United Church Christ has been raising funds to restore their stained glass windows. Last week workers were here to get that work done. Staff members from Willet Hauser Architectual Glass of Winona, Minn. restored the church's stained glass. The Ipswich National Honor Society (NHS) was unable to take their trip to New York and Washington DC in 2020 due to COVID-19. This month, the Ipsodak NHS Educational Adventure included students from the classes of 2020, 2021 and 2022. The 22 students and nine adults drove to Minneapolis on June 12. Richland Church Pastor Ron Wickard gave the sermon "Reflections on 42 years" on June 20. It was his final sermon before his retirement. Pastor Sam Crabtree, a friend and associate of Pastor Ron's, spoke on June 27 at the special service to celebrate Wickard's retirement. Holy Cross Parish hosted a teaching and exposition of Sacred Relics on Saturday, May 22. Father Carlos Martins of the Companions of the Cross works with the Vatican to present more than 150 relics, some as old as 2000 years. Lyla Agius enjoyed sewing. That interest bloomed when she took classes in California in weaving. Lyla, now an Ipswich residence, began weaving in 2007. That hobby has become a full-time interest. She started her own weaving business Lyla Agius Designs in 2013. She now has six looms in a large home in Ipswich on North Fourth Street, the former Dehnert home. The looms fill two rooms. Three Ipswich teachers retired after the completion of the 2020 school year. The three, Anita Doschadis, Lynette Heitz and Joy Kehrwald, were honored during the Senior Graduation parade on May 17.
