The 2020 South Dakota Legislative session began Tuesday, Jan. 14. John Lake of Gettysburg was appointed to serve as District 23 Senator, replacing Justin Cronin who resigned. He was a District 23 representative. Lake was replaced by James Wangsness of Miller, who was appointed by Gov. Kristie Noem. Spencer Gosch of Glenham is District 23's second representative. Rep. Holy Cross Knights of Columbus Council #10546 will sponsor their Free Throw Championship on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. in the Holy Cross Gym. Ipswich participated in three Lake Region Conference boys' basketball games last week, beginning with a homecourt 55-39 Tuesday evening win over Northwestern Area. The Ipswich Area Wrestlers returned to action at the Miller/Highmore/Harrold Invitational on January 12 in Miller. Only seven wrestlers competed due to injuries and illness, with six competing as part of the team and one wrestling unattached. Ipswich picked up a hard-fought 47-33 LRC league girls' basketball win against Warner on January 9 on the Monarchs' own floor. The Tiger girls were gradually able to take control of the outcome, especially during the final quarter. The IHS contingent had trailed 10-7 after a quarter and still faced a narrow 19-18 halftime deficit. But the Tigers won the third-quarter scoring outcome 10-7 to set up that decisive final quarter battle, won by Ipswich going away, 18-7.
