    Believe it or not, Ground Hog Day is right around the corner and there will probably be about six more weeks of winter regardless of Phil's verdict. For starters there have been memorable major winter storms during some previous post-season tournaments, but we hope that won't prove to be true this year. The post-season varsity sports season indeed starts in February with wrestling and girls basketball action getting the spotlight, though the high school boys basketball teams won't start their regional action until early in March.     Dr. John William "Bill" Bloemendaal, 89, orthopedist and surgeon, passed away peacefully at his home on January 13, 2020. Bill was born on February 10, 1930, in Aberdeen, to Dr. Gerrit and Gladys (Williams) Bloemendaal, parents of Dutch and Welsh descent. He was raised in Ipswich.     Ipswich swept a homecourt girls/boys Saturday afternoon varsity basketball doubleheader vs. James Valley Christian last Saturday in the Tiger Den.     The Ipswich Area varsity wrestling team wrestled on Tuesday, January 21 and Saturday the 26th last week. On Tuesday the team traveled to Mobridge to compete in the Mobridge-Pollock Invite which was in a round-robin format. The team earned a third-place finish out of seven teams. Tanner Frickson, Denver Wolff, Matt McCloud and Carter Heinz all contributed team points. The team then traveled to Arlington on Saturday to compete at the Kingsbury County Invitational.     An Ipswich vs. Groton Area girls/boys basketball clash of the Tigers on Tuesday, Jan. 21 in Groton produced mixed results. (And they were both one-point outcomes.)
