  • Fiddlin' Around

    -deg|Feb 3, 2021

Could the groundhog see his shadow? I doubt he could even see his nose in front of his face, seeing how foggy and frosty it has been lately. So we might have six more weeks of winter or we might not. Especially with climate change occurring on nearly a daily basis, that would be hard to predict. But the state climatologists seem to think that our drought conditions will continue for at least a while, but they might only be as accurate forecasters as that groundhog. Well, February is sort of the start of post-season high school events, one of...

From the Ipswich Tribune October 6, 1927 edition ONE CROP PAYS FOR FARM There is one young man who is more than satisfied with this country. His name is Fred Beer. A year ago he bought a farm west of this city from the Bank of Ipswich, S.D. and this year the crop sold from the land paid for the farm and left a comfortable balance besides. Mr. Beer is an ambitious, hard working young man and we are glad that he has made good. The point is however, that land in this country is producing revenue so that the proceeds of a single crop pays for the l...

  • Girls 1-1 last week at home

    -deg|Feb 3, 2021

The Ipswich girls came away with a 46-36 win over LRC rival Warner here last Tuesday. The girls' largest lead would turn out to be 16 before the visitors would stage a mini rally to close within 10. Believe it or not the Monarchs' only lead in the entire game would be their opening basket. That's because the Tiger girls staged an 11-point run, started with a Halle Heinz trey, followed by her break-away lay-up and then two straight Bailey Pitz treys. So the Tigers would indeed lead 11-2 before a...

Ipswich narrowly led 13-12 after a quarter and gradually lengthened its advantage, leading 24-19 thanks to a Katie Bierman buzzer-beater at intermission. Ipswich then narrowly won the third-quarter 9-8 and also enjoyed a 12-5 scoring edge in the final quarter with the Tigers leading 45-29 late in the game after a Hailey Bierman basket. So as you can see the Tigers indeed won each individual...

  • Boys 1-1 at home last week

    -deg|Feb 3, 2021

Lake Region Conference basketball can be quite physical and defense dominated and that was certainly true when the Warner boys invaded the Tiger Den here last Tuesday. And when it was all said and done, the visitors would escape with a 46-33 victory. But Ty Kadlec's trey had opened scoring, followed by a Warner basket. Eric Severson then got free underneath and Kadlec converted a steal into a solo breakaway layup for a brief 7-2 five-point Tiger edge. That's because Warner would soon grab its...

  • Tigers get win in Highmore

    -deg|Feb 3, 2021

Ipswich topped Highmore-Harrold 67-57 in a non-conference boys' high school basket encounter last Saturday in Highmore. The Tigers had to rally from a 21-14 first-quarter deficit, but got the job done. They closed to within a point, 25-24 at intermission and utilized an outstanding 23-12 scoring edge in the third quarter for a 47-37 margin with a quarter to play and that same advantage would stand up in the final stanza. The bottom line was that they were able to dominate the two middle quarters. Ipswich's largest lead was by 13 early in the...
