This has become an old-fashioned winter in several aspects, so hopefully that type of winter won't wreak havoc with the post-season sports event schedules. That all starts with the Tigers' regional wrestling tournament set for February 16 in Redfield. The girls' and boys' basketball regionals are right around the corner, as well. And as of our newspaper deadline, Ipswich was narrowly holding on to the top-seed ranking in the girls' region with Faulkton narrowly in second. Each of those teams had a 11-3 record going into this week's action. And...

From the Ipswich Tribune, August 31, 1935 edition IPSWICH NAMED AFTER TOWN OF ENGLAND BY MILWAUKEE OFFICIAL By J. W. Parmley The question is often asked as to how Ipswich South Dakota got its name, and after considerable investigation we have ascertained the facts. Ipswich was not the pioneer town. In the rush for land in 1882 and 1883 three towns were started in this territory: Freeport, two miles northeast; Georgetown, two miles southeast and Edmunds, four miles southwest. The latter got the designation of the county seat. This was in the...
The Ipswich Lady Tigers edged Philip 63-60 in overtime of a classic hosted by Highmore-Harrold last Saturday afternoon. Things had gone` a little easier for Ipswich against Miller, though, with a 50-36 homecourt win two nights earlier. Against Philip, Halle Heinz got a layup to give IHS a 62-60 lead and Kamryn Heinz then hit a free throw for that 63-60 edge, according to Coach Brian Hogie. He said that Abby Grabowska had netted a pair of free throws with under 10 seconds left in regulation to...
Ipswich hosted a homecourt boys' non-conference high school basketball confrontation with Miller last Thursday. The visiting Rustlers gradually pulled away for a 76-62 win. Ipswich hung around within striking distance, though and indeed drew to within eight points, 62-54 on a Carson Simes layup down the stretch, but the game clock would soon become the visitors' ally. Miller had led 28-15 with a high-powered opening-quarter shooting display. But Ipswich signaled its own intentions with a...
