    Ipswich High School art students competed in the Northern State University Art Wars on Saturday, Feb. 18. The students had 90 minutes to create a piece of art with a prompt in the categories of painting and drawing. Kamryn Boettcher placed first in both drawing and painting.     The Edmunds County Conservation District and Ipswich Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will be hosting a spring workshop on March 22, 2023, at the Edmunds County 4-H Building in Ipswich. Local producers are encouraged to attend to learn about the benefits of incorporating rye into a corn and soybean cropping system. Utilizing rye or other cover crops is an effective tool to help producers implement soil health practices.     Ipswich Vocal and Band students attended Region 4 Music Contest at Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. Groups performing that day were: soprano/alto vocal ensemble, nine vocal solos, a flute solo and a tuba solo. Students received Excellent and Superior ratings while seniors Emily Knoll and Gavin Wollman scored perfect or near perfect scores on their instrumental solos.     The midweek weather systems are getting old. Especially when we have to deliver our Wednesday newspapers to the Post Office. We got a call last Monday morning from our printer in Ortonville, Minn. They wanted us to send them the completed newspapers by Monday evening due to the snow forecast. The usual printer deadline is Tuesday at 5 p.m. We made it and the papers were printed Tuesday morning instead of Tuesday night.     Ipswich/Bowdle wrestler Lucas Rowland placed sixth at the Boys State B Wrestling Tournament last week in Rapid City. I/B received 15 points for 32nd place. Canton won the Boys B division with 163.5 points. Winner was second. In the B-285 division Rowland won by fall over Jaden Richter of Garretson (3.28).     Ipswich defeated Leola/ Frederick 60-37 on Friday, February 24 in boys LRC league basketball action at Leola. The Tigers led 14-9 after a quarter and would then enjoy a 27-23 halftime lead.     To the Editor: Our ability and responsibility to vote A petition to bring to a vote Resolution #2023-02, Uniform Assessment Rate, has been circulated and filed. This is a resolution passed by the Ipswich City Council that will assess $80 per linear foot of street frontage to construct curb, gutter and sidewalk. The assessment will essentially amount to a tax lien on the property and is to be paid back over a period of 15 years.
