  • March weather comments

    Marv Seyer|Mar 23, 2022

Comments on March weather from 47 years: In looking thru my weather records of March I found that I made this comment about 18 of the 47 months of March. (Normal temps. for March) which meant around 41° for average high and 20° for average low.) For moisture I found that only 20 of the 47 months of March exceeded the average for precip. which is 1.12. This means that 27 months were short of the average of 1.12 and that some of the 20 months that did exceed, were fairly high amounts to bring the average up to 1.12. These are some months of M...

  • Fiddlin' Around

    -deg|Mar 23, 2022

Spring has officially sprung and so have the USD women — right into the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. I think their next opponent will be Michigan on Saturday in Wichita, Kan. That’s right the Coyotes for the first time in their program history came away with back-to-back upsets of Ole Miss and Baylor. The Baylor Bears certainly don’t enjoy losing on their own court. So good luck to the Coyotes. Meanwhile the SDSU women, not making the NCAA event as an at-large team, are going to the women’s NIT Tourney and gaining valuable experie...

The 2022 IHS track and field season began with an indoor meet at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen. And NSU will host another indoor meet there on March 29. The first outdoor meet is scheduled for April 5 in Ipswich, weather permitting. The Tigers, led by head coach Todd Thorson, definitely have some impressive numbers in both the girls and boys 7-12 rosters this season. But the girls are quite young with Emily De Raad their lone senior. The boys will feature no fewer than eight senior leaders. They are Ty Kadlec, Carson Gohl, Zach Reuschlein,...

  • Region 2B boys' teams do well at 2022 State B Tournament

    -deg|Mar 23, 2022

The state high school basketball tournaments are now history, including of course the annual boys' B tourney drama in Aberdeen this past weekend. And to nobody's surprise top-seeded De Smet claimed its crown, edging second-seeded Lower Brule 49-26 in the title game. The Region 2B Sioux, indeed representing our region, grabbed an early one-possession lead after a quarter, but from then on the momentum pretty much went into De Smet's favor, thanks in part to its stifling defense. And the Sioux were coming off a grueling three-overtime semifinal w...
