During their March 23 meeting the Edmunds County Commission accepted the resignation of Veterans Service Officer Ron Hoffer, effective March 31, 2021. The Commission appointed Barb Schaefer Edmunds County Veterans Service Officer (VSO) effective April 1, 2021. The new VSO will have office hours from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Edmunds County Courthouse in Ipswich. Her office is on the third floor of the Courthouse. South Dakota Severe Weather Preparedness Week is April 19-23. The week is designed to refresh, remind and educate everyone about the seasonal threats from severe weather and how to avoid them. A formal tornado drill will be part of the week and will occur on Wednesday, April 21. During this drill the National Weather Service (NWS) offices in South Dakota will send a test tornado watch at 10 a.m. and a test tornado warning at 10:15 a.m. NOAA Weather Radio will tone alert. Ann Thomsen's friends and family have set a date of May 1 full of events for her. Ann was diagnosed with a brain tumor in late February. Since then she has undergone surgery at the Mayo Clinic and starts treatments in April. Stu and Ann have been pillars of the Bowdle and surrounding communities for many years. Robert Olson, 77, of Ipswich passed away peacefully April 8, 2021 surrounded by family. He was born August 24, 1943 to Harvey and Lavonne (Oais) Olson. Robert grew up in Ipswich. He graduated from Ipswich High school in 1961 and married his high school sweetheart Patricia Peterson the same year. Joining the U.S. Air Force, he served as a Staff Sargent in Vietnam on a C-130. It was a good day to be a Tiger at a high school track and field invitational hosted by Mobridge-Pollock last Thursday in Mobridge. How so? The Mobridge-Pollock Tigers swept both the girls and boys team standings, followed by Ipswich in second place in both divisions. That's right! The host Tiger girls edged Ipswich 146.5 to 126, while the M-P Tiger boys claimed a 154.5 to 123.5 team score edge over their Ipswich counterparts. Ipswich earned seventh in the boys team chase with its 277, led by Luke Peterson’s individual sixth with an 82, landing him in the Top 15. Next was Chet Peterson, 33rd with 94.
