The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) was set to begin construction on U.S. Highway 12 from Aberdeen to Ipswich on Monday, April 18, 2022. (Construction was originally scheduled to begin on Monday, April 11, 2022). The project consists of modifying intersections, constructing passing lanes, bridge end approach slabs and pavement, lighting, and guardrail. The Ipswich Fifth Grade class recently finished a lesson on Robotics using Lego EV3 Kits that their teacher, Carol Lacher purchased for her classroom. Mrs. Lacher was assisted by Bonnie Nehlich, 4-H Youth Program Advisor. The students were paired up and assembled the Cowbot robot. They used their laptops to program the robot to move forward and backward, make turns, and lift up a paper cow and move it to another spot. It’s that time of the year — time for outdoor sports events and two of them are planned for Saturday in Ipswich. That’s right, both high school golf at Split Rock and track and field events on the new track surface. Lynette Diane Heitz, of Mina, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital of Rochester, Minn., at the age of 67. Ipswich had a busy day in an indoor track and field meet last Thursday in Aberdeen at the Barnett Center organized by Aberdeen Roncalli. Though no team points were kept the IHS Tigers had a busy day. Girls first! Marley Guthmiller won the pole vault at 2.74 meters where three more Tigers placed second, third and fourth.
