    Hosmer residents went to the election polls on Tuesday, June 18 to elect two individuals for three-year terms on the Board of Trustees. Candidates Yvette Rutt and DeWayne Sowards received the most votes — 68 votes for Rutt and 59 votes for Sowards. Levi Sowards also ran for a post on the board. Hosmer Finance Officer Mary Jo Mohr said there was a good voter turnout. Hosmer has 145 registered voters and 74 turned out to vote on June 18.   • Mina Freedom Fest fireworks planned on July 3

    The 2024 Mina Lake Freedom Festival begins Wednesday, July 3. Activities begin at 10 a.m. with activities for youth in the State Park, with free entrance. Kids Fishing for Freedom is planned from 10 a.m. to noon. Registration begins at 9 a.m,. at the State Park dock. Kids can get free rods, tackle and bait. The Kid’s Fun Zone is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the playground and beach. There is free lunch for kids. Activities include face painting, games, swimming and GF&P First Catch.     The Edmunds County 4-H Achievement Days are quickly approaching. There are several livestock events planned for the three days. The Cat Show will start off the three days at the 4-H Building on Sunday, August 4 at 2 p.m. That afternoon the Open Horse Show and Fun Day will start at 4 p.m. This event will be held at the Trail Days Arena.     Jeromy Loken’s initial court appearance was Tuesday, June 18 in the Edmunds County Courthouse. The bond and conditions of release were set. Jeromy Loken, 47, faces charges including rape, sexual exploitation of a minor and sexual contact with a child. Edmunds County States Attorney Vaughn Beck said the next step will be an arraignment, currently scheduled for July 20. And there appears to be at least one more June weekend event which we hope would gather steam to continue. Hopefully it would last more than a year in Aberdeen.     To the Editor: Were you aware that Edmunds County kinda/sorta has a GOP group? The committee is made up of primarily lawyers and a lobbyist. I asked the group committee about becoming a member, no offers or instructions on how to join were made. I asked how many were in the group and who they were, no information was provided.
