This summer the Marcus P. Beebe Library has partnered with the Ipswich Tiger Post and the Historical Society to revitalize the Memorial Garden on Main Street in Ipswich. Tiger Post students and staff have planted native South Dakota plants in the gardens and they are learning to garden and raise and release butterfly's later in the season. Community Vacation Bible has been going on Wednesday evenings at Holy Cross School. The last night is tonight, June 27. A community picnic is planned on Sunday, July 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Bandshell park for participants, family and anyone else who wants to join them. The Ipswich Lions hosted a blood drive with United Blood Services on June 14 at Holy Cross Catholic Church which helped collect a total of 29 units of blood for patients in need. A total of 33 individuals volunteered to donate blood and 25 individuals were able to donate at the United Blood Services blood drive on June 14. A total of four donors also came forward to donate Power Red Cells (2RBC) which collects two units of red blood cells while returning platelets, plasma and a saline solution back to the donor. More than 200 South Dakota cities, counties and tribes will share in $499,767 in grants intended to control mosquitoes and prevent West Nile virus (WNV), the Department of Health announced recently. “South Dakota has a disproportionately high number of WNV cases when compared to other states. Edmunds County 4-H Achievement Days are quickly approaching. There are several livestock events planned for the three days. The Dog Show will start off the three days at the 4-H Building on Wednesday, August 1 at 8 a.m. The dogs will be judged on agility, rally, obedience, and showmanship. That afternoon at 4 p.m. will be the Open Youth Horse Show and Fun Day. This event will be held at the Trail Days Arena. The Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run, an international torch relay, will be coming to the area soon. The run will arrive in Lemmon on July 2 and they plan to arrive in Minneapolis on July 8.
