    The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) announced the Board of Water and Natural Resources has approved $64,768,104 in grants and loans for drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste projects in South Dakota.     Governor Noem signed HB1127 during the 2023 Legislative Session approving a new grant program to support local volunteer fire departments purchase $5.0 million of personal protective Equipment (PPE). The Department of Public Safety (DPS) in partnership with the South Dakota Firefighters Association create the grant program to support local Volunteer Fire Departments (VFDs).     The Edmunds County 4-H Secret Alumni is being held this year in conjunction with the 2024 Achievement Days. Clues are printed in this issue as well as the next two issues of the newspaper.   • 4-H fun at a Sewing Workshop

    Several members attended the Sewing Workshop on July 10. The workshop was led by Bonnie Nehlich, Edmunds County 4-H Educator. Assisting her were Morgan Weisser, Katie Osterman, and Sarah Wesch. The morning group made potholders or a microwave bowl and the afternoon group made a table runner.   • Open Horse Show and Fun Day

    The Open Horse Show and Fun Day is part of the 2024 Edmunds County Achievement Days. The activities will begin with registration starting at 3:30 p.m. at the Trail Days Arena on Sunday, August 4. Events will start at 4 p.m. Riders of all ages are encouraged to come and participate in the numerous fun events planned. Riders under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult in the arena.     A benefit rollover auction in memory of Rainn J. Stadheim, daughter of Jeremy and Carrie Stadheim of Reeder, N.D., is scheduled for noon on Monday, July 22 at Faith Livestock Auction in Faith. Rainn, 12, of Reeder, tragically passed away at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, N.D. on June 2, 2024. A 900-pound Hereford steer, donated by Herman Schumacher of Herreid, will be auctioned off with all of the proceeds going to the Stadheim family.     Local students graduated after the spring 2024 semester at South Dakota State University. More than 1,500 students completed all requirements for a degree and/or certificate program. Overall, students from 35 states and 24 nations graduated following the spring 2024 semester. More than 70 students received two or more degrees or certificates from a college.
