  • Ipswich church celebrates 100th Anniversary

    Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church celebrated the Ipswich church's centennial on Sunday, July 16. The service was held in Zion's worship home in the Schriver Funeral Home. Pastor Zachary Sippert, of Zion Lutheran and Redeemer Lutheran of Bowdle, led the service. He chose Scripture readings looking at the Congregation's past, future and present.     County residents couldn't resist a second chance to watch fireworks on Friday, July 14 at Mina Lake. The Fireworks Extravaganza was preceeded by Snowmobiles on the Water. Snowmobile drivers took their sleds across the lake near the bridge. A few made it across and a few weren't that lucky. The quickest trip across was less than 18 seconds.     The Traveling Lantern will present “Rhonda Appleseed & the Tree that Learned How to Speak” on Friday, July 28 in the Ipswich Bandshell.   • 4-H Achievement Days kick off with dog show

    The 2023 Edmunds County 4-H Achievement Days will kick off on Wednesday, August 2 with the Dog Show. The dog show will start at 8 a.m. at the 4-H Building in Ipswich. Dogs and their owners have been practicing since May and will show their skills in obedience, showmanship, agility, and rally. Members are coached by Hannah Holsing. Participation in this show qualifies them to attend the State Dog Show. The Cat Show will start around 1 p.m. in the front area of the 4-H Building.     Our sump pump has been intermittent lately. But I think it was mostly dry last week. But that was OK because it allowed some outdoor Fourth of July-related activities including some that had been postponed due to too much rain. One of these would have been their scheduled Fireworks which they postponed until last Friday evening. They were also able to have their snowmobiles on the water competition (Mina Lake obviously) that night. Where I guess only the spectators would have minded bad weather during the competition.   • Ipswich Blood Drive brings in 31 volunteer donors

    The Ipswich community hosted a blood drive with Vitalant on June 27 at Holy Cross Catholic Church which helped collect a total of 36 units of blood products for patients in need. A total of 31 individuals volunteered to donate blood and 30 individuals were able to successfully donate at the Vitalant blood drive on June 27. A total of six donors also came forward to donate Power Red Cells (2RBC) which collects two units of red blood cells while returning platelets, plasma and a saline solution back to the donor.   • Kindness chain

    Anyone who came into the Ipswich library from June 22 to July 11 made paper links to add to the Kindness Chain. On July 12 the children took the chain outside and stretched it out from the sidewalk corner all the way down the sidewalk to the light pole. The kids then walked around the library with the chain.
