    The Ipswich Lions will sponsor a Community Blood Drive on Wednesday, August 21. The Blood Drive is planned from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Father Bormann Hall.   • More than 200 exhibits judged at Achievement Days

    The 2024 Edmunds County Achievement Days were held on August 4-6 in Ipswich. The event started on Sunday afternoon with the Cat Show. Monday morning began with the Dog Show. The dogs and members were judged on agility, obedience, rally, and showmanship. Top showman awards will be presented at Recognition Night. The Rabbit and Poultry Show was also on Monday morning.     It has become somewhat of a tradition. Staying up late in hopes of seeing a falling star. The Perseid meteor show hit its peak on Aug. 12. Experts say the Perseids are best viewed from midnight to dawn. The more sky, the better. Find an area with clear view of the horizon, away from trees and tall buildings.     To the Editor: If you’ve not noticed, our county commissioners have decided to raise our taxes for roads and bridges. The tax would be $.50 per thousand. Now while some of you may think that is a good thing, the brunt of the tax levy will again be brought on us, the property owners! I emailed the commissioners on July 26 and asked them three simple questions. 1) Is this a one time only tax 2) How was the tax increase calculated 3) Why are the property owners carrying the load for this tax.   • Hosmer Blood Drive brings 31 volunteers

    The Hosmer community hosted a blood drive with Vitalant on August 6 at the Hosmer Fire Hall which helped collect a total of 41 units of blood products for patients in need. A total of 31 individuals volunteered to donate blood, including five new donors. Hosmer organizer Judy Eisenbeisz thanks all the volunteers. Blood donations are needed daily to maintain a strong blood supply and meet ongoing patient needs.
