  • Judge rules in favor of turkey operation

    Judge Richard Sommers ruled that the Edmunds County Commission followed the proper procedures when they approved a building permit to build a turkey operation near a farm southwest of Ipswich. Mary Curtis filed civil lawsuits against the County Commission and Planning Commission to stop the turkey barn being built near her home. Fifth Circuit Court Judge Sommers recently made his ruling in the county’s favor. An objection has been filed by Curtis’ attorney.     The summer dance students of Ashley Geist-Cusick will present a free recital for the public on Saturday, August 25, at 7:30 pm in the Ipswich High School Theater. The recital will feature students from Ipswich, Roscoe, Hosmer, Bowdle, Eureka, and Selby, ranging in age from three to 16 years old. This year’s show marks the program’s tenth anniversary.     There's a lot of optimism in pre-season football camp this year, even though the Ipswich-Edmunds Central Tigers are coming off a 1-7 season a year ago. The lone team they managed to beat last season was Tiospaye Zina and the Tigers will kick off their 2018 schedule at home on August 17 against Tiospaye Zina at the IHS sports complex.     Donald "Don" Meyer, 90, of Mina passed away Monday, August 6, 2018, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen. Mass of Christian burial was at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 10, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Aberdeen, with Father Patrick Grode as celebrant. Don's wishes were to be cremated. Burial, with military rites, took place at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Donald "Don" Meyer, was born in Booker, Tex. on Sept. 8, 1927, to Andy and Fannie (Hynek) Meyer.
