WEB Water Development Association (WEB) is embarking on multi-year construction projects to increase system capacity and manage moratorium areas within the system. After many years of planning and design, WEB has two landmark projects currently advertised for competitive bids: the Water Treatment Plant Expansion and the Parallel Mainline Pipe project. During the drought of 2021, water systems across the region were stressed with high water usage. WEB’s water treatment plant reached its maximum rated capacity of about 11 million gallons per day...
To the Editor: Case in Point The August 20 issue of the Miller Press’ coverage of the Miller City Council meeting on August 15 makes a strong case for the catastrophe that could be in the making here in Ipswich. The city of Miller is about to implement phase III of a multi-year paving project. The original bid price for the asphalt to complete that phase of the project was $545 per ton. The current price for asphalt is quoted as $875/ton; a 62% increase that stands to cost the city an additional $1,122,000. Now the discussion is: how to m...
The school year has just begun and already they’ve postponed at least one event because of excessive rain at a scheduled cross country meet in Mobridge last Friday. I guess the old saying is certainly here this year, “When it rains it pours.” That certainly has been true lately. So lets hope the weather is more cooperative the rest of the school year. Is that too good to be true? We’ll have to wait and see. We have an early deadline for next week’s papers due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday Sept. 5. The deadline will be on Friday at 4 p.m....
This week I’ll cover the extreme rainfalls from the previous 47 months of August that I have recorded. The average precip. for these 47 months is currently 2.36 which is the 4th wettest month. Ipswich won a Lake Region Conference football game at Langford last Friday. Believe it or not the hosts briefly led 6-0 courtesy of their defense, a 25-yard pass interception return by Kalen Goedel. The final score, though, would be Ipswich 58-8, as the hosts had also converted their PAT. But the Lions would sustain more than one costly turnover that evening. Ipswich first got on the board with a 20-yard scoring run by Tyler Hettich and a conversion run by Ian Beyers. The Tigers received another score from Hettich's 14-yard breakaway, putting t...
Ipswich opened its high school varsity volleyball season with a pair of 3-0 wins, one at home and the other on the road. The Tigers indeed rallied for a Lake Region Conference victory over Aberdeen Christian here last Tuesday (25-21, 25-16, 25-17) and then topped a non-conference foe Highmore-Harrold two nights later in Highmore. Those scores were 25-15, 25-20 and again 25-20. "We are getting comfortable with ourselves and will get more of a challenge with two Class A opponents," said coach...
Ipswich began its cross country campaign during a soggy day in Pierre last Friday. There all the classes were eligible for the results, so there was some quality competition at this event (the Pierre Invitational) to say the least. It was won by Dannika Kaup of Potter County in the girls event at 15:58.69 followed by Katelynn Beshara of Rapid City Central in 16:17.62.
