The Ipswich Subway Invitational Tournament is Saturday, Sept. 16 in the school gyms. Teams in the tournament are Ipswich, Aberdeen Christian, North Central, Langford Area, Kimball/White Lake, Herreid/Selby Area, Milbank and Lemmon. Things are already happening fast regarding the September activity events. There was one thing though that you may have missed and that was Patriot Day on 9-11. The Hosmer community hosted a blood drive with Vitalant on August 31 at the Hosmer Fire Hall which helped collect a total of 35 units of blood products for patients in need. A total of 26 individuals volunteered to donate blood and 20 individuals were able to successfully donate. That included five new donors. Eleven donors gave a double donation and four donors also came forward to donate Power Red Cells (2RBC) which collects two units of red blood cells while returning platelets, plasma and a saline solution back to the donor. James "Jim" Jones, 88, of Cresbard, passed away Friday, August 18, 2023, at his farm. Ipswich claimed a 44-6 high school football verdict over Northwestern last Friday in Mellette. The Tigers obtained a 10-yard TD run by Casey Geditz to put them on the first-quarter scoreboard. And there was a successful two-point conversion play. The Tigers then added a second-quarter score with a Max Kulesa pass to Kyle Hettich that covered 12 yards. But the conversion attempt would fail. North Central's netters entered a high school volleyball invite last Saturday in Mobridge. Mobridge won the event, defeating Stanley County 25-3, 25-19. Ipswich participated in a high school volleyball tourney hosted by Mobridge-Pollock last Saturday. The IHS Tigers dropped a 2-0 decision to North Central 25-15 and 25-16. They then also lost to Timber Lake 25-18 and 25-20, doing quite a bit better. Versus North Central they had 16 kills led by Marley Guthmiller at 22-23 with five kills. North Central was defeated 3-0 in high school volleyball action last Tuesday in Mobridge. But the Thunder would hang around in all three of their sets, losing 25-13, 25-18 and 25-17. Sunshine Bible's volleyball team was able to hang around pretty well Thursday, Sept. 7 in Ipswich, but the host team would still prevail in a straight-sets 3-0 sweep. Ipswich indeed had to rally to capture the first set 25-21 after the SBA netters had manufactured a brief 21-18 lead. Ipswich hosted a Saturday morning cross country invitational at their athletic complex. The Miller boys and Potter County girls won their respective varsity team events. Individually Alex Schumacher of Miller claimed the boys varsity race, while Autumn Fallis of Highmore-Harrold captured the girls event.
