    Ipswich High School's homecoming celebration for 2018 is this week. The theme is "Entertainment." You still have time to register your parade entry. Contact Shana Gohl at the school, 426-6571. The deadline to sign up is 5 p.m. Thursday. But last minute entries can sneak in. Stop at the school prior to the parade to get your entry number. The parade begins at 1 p.m. on Friday.     This is homecoming week in Ipswich and next week at Edmunds Central, so good luck in all your homecoming activities in both instances. The IHS senior royalty crowned on Monday were Queen Kamryn Heinz and King Ben Kulesa. And Edmunds Central will reveal its own homecoming royalty identities during a coronation program on Sunday evening. Of course that could mean a parade or two in the next couple of weeks.     What a difference a year makes! Last year the Ipswich Lady Tiger netters were 1-3 during a high school volleyball invitation at Britton-Hecla. This year, though, the IHS volleyball team improved to 3-1 at the meet, losing only to Langford Area. That gave Ipswich second-place honors at the event and also congratulations go to Ipswich coach Trent Osborne for his 150th career volleyball victory.     In preparing for last Saturday's Britton-Hecla volleyball invite, Ipswich dropped a pair of Lake Region Conference decisions, one at home and the other on the road. The Lady Tigers lost in straight sets in both instances. They lost a home-court 25-8, 25-11, 25-21 outcome to Warner and then two nights later at Northwestern the host team topped Ipswich 25-6, 25-16 and 25-15.     Ipswich-Edmunds Central traveled to Miller for a non-conference high school football game last Friday, but the hosts weren't very generous. Miller/Highmore-Harrold jumped off to a 14-0 first-quarter lead. They added three second-quarter scoring opportunities, while I-EC got on the board once before the half to face a 36-8 halftime deficit. The hosts also outscored the Tigers 12-8 in the third quarter for a comfortable 32-point lead and neither team was able to score in the final stanza, resulting in a 48-16 hosts' win.     Tim Gillick was the first winner of the Ipswich Tribune Football Contest. Tim and Ed Miller were tied with two misses, but Ed had the tie breaker incorrect. The contest will be in the Tribune throughout September and October....

  • Cross Country girls and boys champs again

    Ipswich swept both the girls' and boys' varsity team races at an invitational Cross Country meet hosted by Potter County in Gettysburg last Saturday. Starting with the girls' event, Ipswich topped runner-up Cheyenne-Eagle Butte 7 to 17 in the team standings and the Lady Tigers also featured the top two individual girls in the race.     Barb Gillick had a hole-in-one at the Split Rock Country Club golf course on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018. It was five years ago when Barb's sister Gail had a hole-in-one on the same hole. Barb said the ace was a birthday gift. She used the five wood she recently received for her birthday. The feat was witnessed by her husband Tim and Hugo Grosz....
