The Ipswich School Marching Band competed in the Lake Region Marching Band Festival on October 7 in Groton. The IHS band was named the "Overall Champion Band" by the judges. They were honored as "Best Woodwinds", "Best Percussion" and "Band of Distinction". The band also marched in the NSU Gypsy Day parade on October 8. They received a gold rating there. Richland Church will be holding their annual Fall Festival on Wednesday, October 19 from 7 to 8 p.m. The event is for children up to sixth grade. The regional cross country meets in high school autumn sports is beginning Wednesday. Ipswich has been moved into Region 1B over in Webster, while North Central is in Class A and their regional cross country action is in Chamberlain. There is just one weekend left of the regular season before the football play-off season begins. Lloyd Alton Ernst, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grand- father, brother, uncle, and friend, died peacefully on September 18, 2022, surrounded by his family. Faulkton Area made the short trip over to Ipswich last Tuesday and returned home with a 3-0 straight sets varsity volleyball victory. And this was also a Lake Region Conference affair. Ipswich was out-hit 55 to 44 at the net, including a 29-12 kills deficit. Kelly Stoeker led the Trojans there with a perfect 11-11 evening and she included eight kills. Ipswich hosted and attended the 2022 Lake Region Conference Cross Country meet last Wednesday at Split Rock. The Tiger varsity girls finished second as a team, bettered only by Frederick Area 17 to 23 for top honors. The boys from IHS would finish third in their varsity outcome with 21 team points. Northwestern and Frederick Area each had 12 boys team points to edge out Ipswich. Ipswich improved to 5-2 with a non-conference 68-13 varsity football win over Dupree in Dupree last Friday. That leaves one remaining game on the Tigers' regular-season schedule — a LRC league affair to be hosted by Ipswich vs. the North Central Thunder on Friday. Ipswich was able to place fifth at a Battler invitational volleyball tourney last Saturday in Gettysburg. The Tigers capped this event with a 25-21, 25-19 consolation victory over the host team. Needless to say Coach Trent Osborne was quite happy about that, finishing with a 2-2 record there. "A spirited and more intense group showed up at the tourney," he said. Ipswich won a girls' volleyball clash 3-2 over Mobridge-Pollock in a battle of the Tigers Monday in the Tiger Den. Volleyball matches can and often do have some momentum changes, especially those that go the distance and that was certainly true of Monday's match.
