  • Fire Department simulation at Ipswich School

    On the evening of March 9, the Ipswich Volunteer Fire Department in coordination with the Ipswich School and Superintendent Trent Osborne, preformed a live training drill that simulated a fire inside one of the rooms at the school. Firefighters were paged out as if it were the real thing and they responded to the school from the fire hall.     To promote Youth Art Month, the Council for Art Education coordinates Youth Art Month activities at the national level. The primary event was the State Flag program. Quincy Olivier's flag design won for the South Dakota Youth Art Month contest. Each state will have a flag represented at the National Art Educator's Conference.   • Spring Concert Tuesday for middle school and high school

    Ipswich middle school and high school music students will perform their Spring Concert on Tuesday, March 22 at 7 p.m. in the School Theatre. Featured music groups include the 6-7 band, middle school choir, 8-12 band, 9-12 choir, under the direction of Nate Collins and Becky Nierman. Students will perform the music they are working on for their contest. High School contest is March 30 at Johnson Fine Arts Center at Northern State University.     Kamryn Boettcher and Quincy Olivier attended the Art Wars at Northern State University. They competed in the Drawing and Painting categories. They had 90 minutes to create a piece of art inspired by a prompt. Then they gave an artist's statement to the judge explaining their piece. Quincy placed first in drawing, and third in painting.     The Ipswich Lions Club recently honored Lion member Ila Davis with a 40-year member chevron pin. Lion Ila received her 40-year membership award during the club's March meeting.
