Over 1,000 of South Dakota's best high school vocal and instrumental musicians will gather in Sioux Falls for the 67th Annual South Dakota All-State Chorus and Orchestra on Friday and Saturday, November 1 and 2. Halloween is Thursday. Plans are underway to help youngsters celebrate. Avantara Ipswich will have Trick or Treat for youth on Halloween in the nursing home in Ipswich from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. This year’s Ipswich PTP Halloween Carnival will be Friday, November 1 from 4 to 6 p.m. for kids in fifth grade and younger in the school gym. Ipswich Tiger Special Olympics athletes recently participated in tournaments. Tucker Green competed in the NE Unified Special Olympics Tournament in Watertown. He bowled with his grandfather, Bob DeJong. Unified Special Olympics involves an athlete with a disability and one without. The team received third place. Congratulations to the cross country runners at the State B in Huron on Saturday. It turned out to be quite a decent day and the calm before the storm. From then on it's felt more like November or even December, but on the plus side it didn't precipitate much if any in the past few days. Getting around Highway 37 detours north of Huron and in the city itself was about as big a challenge as the cross country course with its hilly terrain. Eight Ipswich elementary students were chosen to sing in the South Dakota Music Education Association (SDMEA) Elementary Honor Choir. Nearly 500 South Dakota students auditioned. Approximately 140 were chosen for the two choirs. Ipswich's State B cross country results in Huron last Saturday produced two individual Lady Tigers who medaled in the Top 25 and one Tiger boy achieving that feat in Huron. Additionally the Lady Tigers claimed sixth place in their team standings there Saturday.
