    The 2022 Ipswich Snow Queen will be crowned on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. in the School Theatre. The theme is "Go For Gold." The Festival is sponsored by the Ipswich Commercial Club. The senior candidates are Emily DeRaad, Chloe Jager and Tasia Rivera. There are five candidates for Junior Miss Ipswich.     Ila Walker was crowned the 2022 Senior Citizen Snow Queen recently at Avantara. Ila Walker was born and raised on a farm in the Chelsea/Cresbard area. She lived on the family farm and graduated from Cresbard in 1947. Her father insisted she go to college so she attended Northern for a quarter to make him happy. In 1948 she married and was with her husband for 65 years before his passing. They had six children, followed by eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Her husband worked the...

  • Veterans' Day programs at local schools

    Veterans’ Day is Thursday, Nov. 11. Local schools will have programs to celebrate the holiday. The Edmunds Central School in Roscoe will host a program at 1 p.m. on Nov. 11 in the EC Fine Arts Gymnasium. All local veterans from Hosmer and Roscoe are invited to be guests of honor for the program. EC students are all working on different contributions to the Veterans’ Day program.     I don’t know about you, but I certainly had trouble adjusting to the new time on the first day at work, especially the afternoon. Afternoons are long enough to begin wth and this one was particulary long. I hadn’t looked at the clock that many times since I was in school. Speaking of school. The IHS Class of 1965 lost another member — journalist/newspaper man, Ed Engler. We spent time with him a few years ago. He will certainly be missed.     Edward James Engler, 74, 51st mayor of the City of Laconia, N.H. and co-founder and president of The Laconia Daily Sun, died on November 5, 2021. The cause of death was colon cancer. Ed was born at the community hospital in Ipswich on June 8, 1947. He was the first child of Donald and Iona Engler. Ed graduated from Ipswich High School in 1965 and then matriculated to the University of Texas at Austin, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Journalism degree in 1972.
