The 2019 Ipswich Snow Queen Festival had "A Touch of Class" on Saturday evening, Nov. 10 in the School Theatre. The 2018 Snow Queen Abigail Noltner crowned her successor. The 2019 Snow Queen is Aleah Steger. Steger was also chosen Miss Congeniality. The first runner-up was Abigail Grabowska. 2018 Junior Miss Ipswich Lindsey Grabowska crowned the 2019 Junior Miss Ipswich - Emily DeRaad. The Ipswich School had a Veterans' Day program on Monday, Nov. 12 in the School Theatre. The band and chorus performed and several students had readings. The audience observed 100 seconds of silence to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. The eighth grade language class had a presentation, pictured. The class members told 13 ways to thank a veteran and 50 words to describe a veteran. As they did that, they revealed the U.S. Flag....
The annual Ipswich Community Thanksgiving service is planned on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 1 p.m. in the United Church of Church. You are invited to share the Friendly Feast dinner before the service in the UCC Fellowship Hall from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome to share this free Thanksgiving meal....

Well, it's been unbelievably chilly for this time of the year, down right cold with even colder wind chills. Fortunately November's moisture so far hasn't produced any permanent snow cover. But there's plenty of time for that stuff later this month or better yet in December. It also sounds like winter is right around the corner with basketballs replacing footballs and volleyballs (we've even attended a college game or two). But for three area Class B high school volleyball teams, Northwestern, Warner and Faulkton, all out of the Lake Region...
This month the school has decided to connect with a long-time member of the Tiger community - Mike Williams - by doing what they can to help him after a serious accident. This week, November 12-16, grouped by grade, the Ipswich Public School will be collecting coins that will be presented to Mike and his family on November 30, at the benefit in his honor. Each day, buckets of coins will be weighed to keep track of the "team" that has gathered the most weight in coins and show the running tally....
The funeral service for Clare C. Davidson, 85, of Ipswich was at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018 at Gramm Funeral Home, 720 N. 6th Street in Ipswich. Burial was in the Ipswich City Cemetery. Clare was born in a house overlooking Pickeral Lake near Grenville. She was raised in Waubay and attended school there, graduating from Waubay High School in 1951. She met the love of her life, Neil Davidson, of Bristol, and the two were married a short time after. They made their home in a trailer house... Full story
Deloris Lester passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at her home after a long battle with cancer. She was 83, and was surrounded by her family when she passed. Deloris was born to Daisy and Herbert Kracke on May 1, 1935 in White. Deloris had one older sister, Eunice, and two younger siblings, Janice and Marvin. As a kid, Deloris went to the Lutheran Church, and helped her parents with chores on the farm. Deloris was often bossing Marvin around on the farm when he wouldn't listen to Eunice.... Full story
On Oct. 30, Ipswich art students attending the Northern State University High School Workshop and Exhibition. They attended various workshops including wire sculptures, sharpie ink tiles, and printmaking. Olivia Gohl won the second place prize that included a $1,000 scholarship to Northern State University....
Grace Beyers won a merit award at the NOTSTOCK contest at Minot State University for her ink drawing Giraffe of Life....
FOOTBALL WRAPS UP There are arguably too many classes in South Dakota high school football, resulting in some possible lop-sided state-championship decisions at the Dome each season. And that was indeed true again this year! But even those outcomes can be attributed to really solid defense by at least one team. An old sports cliche says that offense wins games, but defense wins championships.
