The "Moolah for Mike" fundraiser at the Ipswich School last week brought in more than 225 pounds of change. The Seniors, Junior Kindergarten and Pre-school worked together to win the challenge. They exceeded the goal set. So those students will present the money raised to the Mike Williams family. The total raised was $2000. Recent reports of community increases in pertussis (whooping cough) have the Department of Health reminding parents to make sure their kids are appropriately immunized. Since the beginning of the year, 90 cases of pertussis have been reported to the Health Department. This is the highest number reported since 2014 when the state saw 109 pertussis cases. One, Father Russell Homic of Holy Cross Catholic Church lives in Ipswich. The other two are interim pastors who live elsewhere. Ipswich Lions hosted a blood drive with Vitalant, formerly United Blood Services, on November 6 at Holy Cross Catholic Church which helped collect a total of 53 units of blood for patients in need. A total of 46 individuals volunteered to donate blood and 43 individuals were able to donate at the Vitalant blood drive on Nov. 6. A total of 10 donors also came forward to donate Power Red Cells (2RBC) which collects two units of red blood cells while returning platelets, plasma and a saline solution back to the donor. Momentum in high school sports can change quicker than you can pronounce the word momentum, particularly in girls' volleyball. The State B last weekend in Sioux Falls was eventually won 3-1 by Warner over Northwestern in Saturday's long-awaited title clash. The defending champion Wildcats had won their first and only set 25-15, but then the Monarchs grabbed the momentum for 25-21, 25-18 and 25-12 victories. Ipswich has landed two players on the recently released Lake Region Conference girls' volleyball team. It is not unusual to put three thousand miles on a vehicle during the summer. Three thousand miles on a bicycle in 40 days at age sixty-five-that's intriguing. Bicyclist, Gary Wietgrefe, started in Pierre with a goal of North Pole, Alaska. To be exact, 2,998 miles later he passed Santa Claus House and a pen of reindeer to arrive unscathed at his nephew's home in North Pole.
