He was recognized for conservation practices on his Edmunds County farm. Edmunds Central School was one of the South Dakota schools that were six finalists for the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow national competition. Each finalist won $2,500 in technology and school supplies. Ipswich hosted Wilmot in boys' only high school basketball action last Friday in the Tiger Den. And the 62-33 Ipswich varsity win was a non-conference verdict. Ipswich indeed would double the Wolves 20-10 in the first quarter with two free throws by Chet Peterson. And Peterson's trey ended the first half with the Tigers up 37-16. And the Tigers wouldn't let up too much during the second half and were able to cruise to a win.after leading 49-25 at the third-quarter break. Wasn't there a lot of information in last week's Tribune? Of course a lot of it was Christmas related which is good! This week's New Year's edition might be hampered a little by that winter storm that they were forecasting. But we hope that won't be the case. It does appear that we very well might see even more of a White Christmas in some areas anyway. You guys can dream up some New Year's Resolutions if you are stranded somewhere. The winner of the Dean Schumacher Commemorative Rifle was Lowell Punt of Aberdeen. He is pictured with the Schumachers when he received the special prize. The rifle donation raised $11,000 in ticket sales for the Hosmer bar kitchen project. The rifle was donated by the Schumacher family. A detail on the rifle says - "It's five o'clock somewhere!"...

Charles Carl is in charge of the construction work. He informs us that the system should be in use within ten days. Donna (Hoffman) Loken, 67, Minot, N.D. and formerly of Devils Lake and Leeds died on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 in her home after a lengthy illness. Donna was born on September 13, 1956 in Wenatchee, Wash. Her parents were Donald Sr. and Beverly Hoffman. She was raised in various communities in North Dakota where her dad was a school teacher. Waubay-Summit visited the Tiger Den last Tuesday and escaped with a sweep of their high school basketball twinbill vs. Ipswich. Their girls indeed won 60-41 and their boys had a little easier time of it with a 46-39 victory. First for the girls, the visitors led 26-6 after a quarter so got off to a real impressive start to say the least. They would then lead 40-18 at halftime. The North Central varsity basketball girls were defeated 43-36 in a trip into Strasburg, N.D. on December 18 vs. Strasburg-Zeeland. The hosts indeed had narrowly trailed 10-9 after a quarter, but were able to grab a 23-15 halftime lead. And they then tacked on a 36-26 edge with a quarter to play. But the Thunder obtained 14 points by Jenisa Jacobs. Then Ella Batie and Alaina Dosch each netted seven points and Amree Vander Vorst contributed six points with a pair of treys. The North Central Thunder were defeated 60-38 by South Border (Wiskek/Ashley, N.D.) in boys varsity basketball action on December 19 there. A 25-8 first-quarter deficit didn't help especially when the Thunder were then held scoreless 15-0 in the entire second quarter. And South Border narrowly outscored the Thunder 12-10 in the third stanza. The North Dakota team was led in scoring by Kaden Bader with his 19 points and Colin Goettle added 14 points. The Ipswich Knights of Columbus had their annual free throw competition on Dec. 12 in the Ipswich School Auxiliary Gym. Participants ages nine to 14 were welcome to compete in the event that has been held annually by the Knights of Columbus since 1972. The participants compete within their own gender and age division and progress from local level to regional and state/provindial contests.
