October 7-12, 2024, is National 4-H Week. The Edmunds County 4-H Shotgun Shooting Sport program had a busy summer shooting to qualify for the state shoot. Shooters spent Wednesday nights at the Ipswich Shooting Range practicing their shotgun skills. The state shoot was held in Mitchell on September 6-8. These programs take place at the 4-H Building in Ipswich and are open to youth between the ages of 8 (by January 1, 2024) and 18 that are registered 4-H members. They will begin on Monday, January 15 at 6:30 p.m. with a cleanup/setup night. The Edmunds County 4-H Recognition Event was held Monday, November 27 at the 4-H Building in Ipswich. The evening started with a potluck supper followed by the awards ceremony. The 4-H members, leaders, and friends of 4-H were honored for their accomplishments and contributions. South Dakota youth had a strong showing at the 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships, including third place for the team sweepstakes award. The 2023 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships were held June 25-30 in Grand Island, Nebraska, and had 718 youth representing 42 states. Ipswich residents will elect their Mayor on Tuesday, April 11. The election polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the 4-H Building. The candidates are the incumbent LeRoy Kilber and Hank Baker. Edmunds County Shotgun 4-H Shooting Sports will start tonight, June 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the Ipswich Sportsmen’s Club north of Ipswich. This is only open to current 4-H members enrolled in the shotgun project area. The first class will include safety training followed by shooting. Members may shoot the shotgun of their choice.
