The 2023 Edmunds County Achievement Days were held August 2-4 in Ipswich. The event started on Wednesday morning with the Dog Show. They were judged on obedience, agility, rally, and showmanship. The Open Horse Show and Fun Day is part of the 2023 Edmunds County Achievement Days. The activities will begin with registration starting at 3:30 p.m. at the Trail Days Arena on Wednesday, August 2. Events will start at 4 p.m. Riders of all ages are encouraged to come and participate in the numerous fun events planned. Riders under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult in the arena. It was a beautiful day for 2023 Trail Days on Saturday, June 17. The evening began with a rodeo and the stands were full. That was followed by a concert. Urbandale Lane performed first, then Priscilla Block had a musical "Block Party." Bulls and Broncs Emily Knoll sang the National Anthem and Auctioneer, Lewis Reuer began the Calcutta. The Trail Days weekend offered a variety of events (except rain which we desperately needed). Even if you chose to participate in only one or two of them! Kudos to everybody on the Trail Days committee. There looks like a few more area events which are being planned starting perhaps with Leola's annual Rhubarb Festival and Bowdle Tower Days, both set for June 23-25. JULY The Mina Lake Freedom Festival was held on July 3. There were family events throughout the day with fireworks that evening. A thunderstorm late on July 3 left several inches of rain, causing flash flooding and road closings. The Ipswich Fire Department was called to the Ramsey Crissman home early on July 4. JANUARY Ipswich Snow Queen Tasia Rivera and Junior Miss Ipswich Kathryn Kilber participated in the 2022 76th South Dakota Snow Queen Festival in Aberdeen January 7-15. Ipswich senior contestant Emily Knoll qualified to participate in the finals of the State Talent Competition. The Ipswich City Council met Monday, Aug. 22 and continued their discussion on the Stockwell Engineering proposal to improve the storm sewer system in town. A resolution to accept the funding for the first proposal of storm sewer improvements was examined by the council members. They had questions about some of the wording and decided to table the decision until the wording is clarified. Some council members said they would like to hear from more community members also. The 2022 Ipswich Trail Days Amazing Race was held on Friday, June 17 evening of Trail Days and had 20 participating teams. First place finishers were the team of Max Kulesa, Chet Peterson, Tucker Kadlec, and Rasmus Loken.
