From the Ipswich Tribune May 30, 1929 edition WHY NOT A THRIFT DAY FOR IPSWICH? Why not a Thrift Day or Bargain day for Ipswich? Neighboring towns are putting on these special days once a month, telling their customers of the advantages of trading at home. Special inducements are being offered by all the business men. Just this week we noticed in the Selby paper where the Selby Commercial Club is sponsoring a Bargain Day feature. All Selby business men are uniting to make this a red letter day for Selby. Ipswich should enter into such a...
Weather Summary The average precip. for December is now .35 making it the driest month of the year along with January. 26 months of December out of 47 had precip. totals around or below .35. What I’m doing in this publication is to pick eight of the other 21 months where the precip. and snow totals were some what higher or odd: 1977: 11 inches of snowpack was passed to December 1977 from November 1977. This caused problems right away. Month was plagued with 14 more inches of snow which amounted to .85 and five blizzards of white-out conditions....

The average high temp. for December is now 26° figuring in the last 47 years. The average low is now 5°. Checking through my weather records I’ve found that 31 of these 47 Decembers have fell within these averages. That leaves 16 Decembers quite far out of these averages either with the high average, low or both. I’ve picked 9 of these which I would call extreme that I’ll report on as follows: 1977: Cold month – Average high temp. 18° – Fourteen nights of zero or below temps. – Two days (6th & 9th) never got above zero – Christmas Day 6...

Forrest and Floyd Dehnert, Stephen Williams, Ernest Beebe, Chet Williams and Leander Weber put the tree in place. Ipswich should be grateful for the enterprise shown by Mr. Beebe in putting up...
Introduction to 47 Decembers December’s average high temp. drops 14° from November’s 40 to a freezing 26°. The low average drops to 5°. Because of the low day time average, just rain as precip. becomes an oddity. (This may not be the case for December 2022 though because of the forecast for the coming week) The snowfall average for December is 5 inches. The average precip. is .35 the same as January which makes them our driest months. (In the next two weeks of December 2022 I’ll cover some of the Decembers which were not in the normal range of...
