The South Dakota Department of Public Safety has announced plans for 20 sobriety checkpoints in 15 different counties during the month of September. Checkpoints are scheduled for the counties of: Edmunds, Lake/ Moody, Minnehaha, Pennington, Beadle, Day, Codington, Lawrence, Hughes, Charles Mix, Mellette, Stanley, Walworth, Clay. The Whitestone Hill Healing Ride riders will be stopping in Ipswich on Thursday, Aug. 31. The riders are on their way to Whitestone Hill State Historic Site, located 23 miles southeast of Kulm, North Dakota. The Healing Ride commemorates the Sept. 3, 1863 battle when the U.S. Army led by Brigadier General Alfred Sully attacked a Native American encampment at Whitestone Hill. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad Company (BNSF) will begin railroad crossing repair work on S.D. Highway 45, in Ipswich, on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023. The railroad crossing repair operations will close Highway 45. No detour is available. The expected completion date for the project is Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023. Motorists should be aware that S.D. The 2023 Edmunds County Achievement Days were held August 2-4 in Ipswich. The event started on Wednesday morning with the Dog Show. They were judged on obedience, agility, rally, and showmanship.
