The top-seeded fifth-place wrestler from all the regions could compete at state as an alternate if a wrestler in...

Carter Heinz, a senior, was able to do exactly that, in last year's State B, where he was even able to earn a placement. • IHS girls have a winning week

    Feb 12, 2020

Ipswich snared a pair of girls' high-school basketball wins last week. One was a 61-22 league win at home vs. Leola/Frederick on Tuesday, Feb. 4, followed by a much closer 48-43 non-league win over Miller on Friday in Miller. Feb 5, 2020

The Ipswich girls' basketball team was defeated in its lone appearance last week, a hard-fought 54-47 setback to Region 2B rival Herreid/ Selby Area in Selby. As you might possible guess, the first quarter had decided nothing with both teams coming away with 15 points. But the host team out-pointed its visitors 12-9 in the second quarter to grab a somewhat tenuous one-possession 27-24 halftime lead. The Wolverine girls then out-scored Ipswich 19-7 with a quarter to play for a 46-31 edge. But Ipswich fought back furiously in the final quarter...

Ipswich hosted a girls/boys Lake Region Conference showdown with Faulkton Area last Thursday in the Tiger Den, games that could also possibly affect the Region 2B power rankings. Faulkton gradually pulled away from the Tiger girls for an eventual 48-31 victory, despite a game-ending trey by Ipswich's Kate Geditz. The visitors had led 14-10 after a quarter, but only scored one point in the second quarter, compared to Ipswich's nine-point scoring burst, capped by Halle Heinz with six straight...

  • Lady Tigers get overtime win over Wildcats

    Jan 22, 2020

The score was tied six times, including that all-important tie at the end of regulation and the lead also changed hands six times.
