    Several Edmunds County 4-H Archery Shooting Sports members won awards at the State Shooting Sports Competition held in April. The beginner compound without sites team took third place in the state. Team members include Lincoln Beyers, Nevaeh Moser, and Seth DeRaad. They each received medals for their hard work.   • 4-H Shooting Sports plans summer program

    Edmunds County 4-H Shooting Sports will have Shotgun again this summer. They will shoot every Monday starting on June 10. Practice will be held at the Sportsman’s Club north of Ipswich starting at 6:30 p.m. The first class will include safety training followed by shooting. Members may shoot the shotgun of their choice. Shells and clay pigeons for the first round will be provided for 4-H members. Extra rounds will be available for a fee. Shooters must wear eye protection and ear plugs.     The Region 5B high school golf tournament was held on Monday, May 20 at Broadland Creek Golf Course in Huron. The Tiger boys were the runner-up regional champs with an aggregate 278, second only to Potter County's 266, among 11 teams eligible for the team standings. Selby Area claimed third at 289.     The State B high school golf tourney has been moved from Mitchell to Yankton due to poor course conditions. The meet will be held on June 3-4. Ipswich prepped for the Monday Regional meet at Huron with a pair of trips there last week. The Tigers attended the pre-region warm up last Monday and also the invitational on May 16 hosted by JVC.     The Ipswich varsity golfers were planning to attend a meet hosted by James Valley Christian in Huron last Thursday, but it got postponed until this Thursday, May 16. So the Ipswich contingent stayed home to attend a meet at Split Rock in Ipswich that day instead.     Though the Lake Region Conference track and field meet in Ipswich last Tuesday started out in less than optimal weather conditions and ended in downright rain showers, several records and state qualifications were still recorded.     Ipswich graduate and USD sophomore Macy Heinz crossed the finish line in 2:10.32 to win the college women’s 800-meter run during the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls this past weekend.     Ipswich attended two high school golf meets last week, starting with the Lake Region Conference high school golf invite in Aberdeen last Tuesday, where IHS came away with a boys' varsity team win, led by Luke Peterson's individual title. He carded an 80, five strokes better than runner-up Andrew Rohrbach of Aberdeen Christian.     Local athletes competed in the Special Olympics Area Track Meet held in Watertown on Friday, May 3. It was a successful day for Tucker Green, Johnathan Kamps, Isaiah Goetz, Teagan Cody, Royce Iverson, Casey Gilborne, Cash Henderson and Coy Stager.     Due to less than favorable weather conditions last Saturday, a scheduled track and field meet in Gettysburg was cancelled. But that was no problem for the Ipswich contingent.     Ipswich’s Brian Hogie was named the Aberdeen American News All-Area Girls Basketball Coach of the Year. And three of his stalwarts were also named to the AAN All-Area Girls Basketball Team for 2019.     Todd Thorson, Ipswich track and field and cross country coach, has been selected as one of the 10 Aberdeen Central graduates who will be inducted into the 2019 Aberdeen Central Hall of Fame.
