The Tigers were able to handle Hitchcock-Tulare 50-32 last Tuesday in the Tiger Den and the IHS boys added a 48-44 come-from-behind win at home over Florence/Henry on Friday. Ipswich made a Saturday trip to Webster quite worthwhile by capturing both ends of a girls/boys non-conference basketball doubleheader. The Tiger girls got back on the win track with a hard-earned 46-37 victory and the boys picked up their third straight win of the young season with a convincing 61-34 outcome. Ipswich/Leola/Bowdle (ILB) competed in a Plankinton wrestling invite on Saturday, Dec. 15. The Tigers faced some difficult opposition to say the least. The Tigers were able to get a six-place placement from Tanner Frickson, who scored nine of the team's 12 team points, at 120. Zach Geditz, competing at 170 was able to obtain ILB's remaining three team points. The tourney was won by Burke/Gregory with 201 points, edging Redfield Area's 185. Ipswich senior netter Abigail Grabowska has been named to the S.D. Class B All-State Volleyball Team as selected by the South Dakota Volleyball Coaches Association. Grabowska was named to the second-team. All in all it was a great day for the Lake Region Conference of which Ipswich is a member. Ipswich/Edmunds Central's Carter Heinz, a junior, was named to the South Dakota Class 9A All-State football team as a defensive tackle. Ipswich/Leola/Bowdle attended a JV wrestling event in Faulkton on Monday. The actual varsity schedule begins with a December 1 trip to a Stanley County meet. Momentum in high school sports can change quicker than you can pronounce the word momentum, particularly in girls' volleyball. The State B last weekend in Sioux Falls was eventually won 3-1 by Warner over Northwestern in Saturday's long-awaited title clash.
