    For the second straight week, the Ipswich girls have narrowly defeated runner-up Aberdeen Roncalli in a high school cross country meet, this time at the Pheasant Invitational, ran at the Fisher Grove Golf Course near Redfield last Thursday. And on Thursday the Lady Tigers manufactured a little more breathing room over Roncalli, resulting in a nine-point 17 to 26 win. Credit Lady Tiger Aleah Steger with an individual win in 19:24.5.     Ipswich-Edmunds Central improved to 2-0 with a 22-12 Lake Region Conference high school football victory over Northwestern Area last Friday in Mellette. In a battle between two quite evenly-matched teams, Ipswich-Edmunds Central gradually took control of the line of scrimmage both ways.     Ipswich earned a narrow 12 to 14 girls' varsity cross country team championship over Aberdeen Roncalli last Saturday in Mobridge. The win was facilitated by four Top 20 individual performances from Lady Tiger runners, featuring Aleah Steger in first at 20:46.35, followed by Tessa Kilber in second place at 21:42.72.     Ipswich opened its 2018 high school volleyball campaign last Thursday with a homecourt 3-1 win over Aberdeen Christian. Ipswich won the back-and-forth opening set 25-22 and had an even easier 25-13 win of the second set.     Ipswich-Edmunds Central opened its 2018 campaign with a home-field 36-14 non-conference high school football win over Tiospa Zina last Friday.     Carter Heinz, 17-year-old son of Doug and Lynette Heinz, has been competing this summer in several 4-H regional rodeos. Heinz competes in the senior bull riding. The contestants have to cover an eight-second ride to receive a score. The top four contestants in their event then qualifies for the State Rodeo. Heinz did that earlier this summer in Watertown.     The Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern (W.I.N.) Jr. Legion baseball team will be playing in the State Class "B" Tournament in Winner later this week.     The Edmunds County 4-H Horse Show was held on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at the Yellowstone Trail Complex in Ipswich. The 15 participants were from Edmunds, McPherson, Campbell, Faulk, Walworth, and Brown counties.     Ipswich defended its Region 2B girls and boys team championships on a windy, but thankfully dry day at Gettyburg last Thursday, as the heavy rain showers stayed to the north until after the meet.
