Alfred "Al" Kolb

Alfred (Al) Francis Kolb, St. Joseph, Mo. and formerly of Ipswich, died on June 21, 2018 at his winter home in Donna, Tex.

  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 14 at 1:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Garden Mausoleum, Aberdeen, with Pastor Marcia Sylvester leading the service.

Al was born on November 17, 1941 in Leola to Helen Kolb. He was raised in Aberdeen by his mother and step-father, Anton Kvasnicka. He graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1960. Al married Gwenda Ertz on June 20, 1960 in Ipswich where they made their home. To this union, six children were born.

  Al spent his life on the road. He drove bus for a time and was an over-the-road truck driver and owner/operator. He drove for Safeguard, Mobile Oil, Rainbow Feedlot, Beeline Truck Line and Kitchell Truck Line before starting his own business, Al Kolb Trucking. He retired in 2012 settling in St. Joseph, MO.

  Al was an avid NASCAR fan and loved everything Dale Earnhardt, Sr. He loved going to the track and was able to be joined by many of his children, grandchildren and friends. In his retirement, he enjoyed wintering in South Texas.

Al is survived by his six children, Craig (Ann) Kolb of Groton, Carmen (Lon) Craig of Claremont, Carol (Scott) Myhre of Cottonwood, Minn., Lisa (Brian) Fischer of Stratford, Paul (Amy) Kolb of Onida, and Michele (Tom) Schaefer of Ipswich; grandchildren, Rachel (Garrett) Dubbeldee of Marshall, Minn., Jason Myhre of Minneota, Minn., Justin (Emily) Myhre of Lake Benton, Minn., Jared Kolb of Sioux Falls, Mikala Fischer of Stratford, Braiden and Jace Craig of Claremont, Kelli Snyder of Mesa, Ariz. and Allison Severson of Ipswich; step-grandchildren, McKensey (Tony) Konold, Raelee, Kalix, Cainen of Clear Lake, Brad (Chelsey) Sheridan of Groton, Tyler Fischer of Deadwood, Garrett and Griffin Peterson of Onida; great-granddaughter, Evelyn Dubbeldee of Marshall Minn.; brothers, Tony (Carol) Kvasnicka of Aberdeen and Eddie Kvasnicka of Aberdeen; sister, Nancy Kvasnicka of Aberdeen; many aunts, uncles, nephews; his huge trucking family; and Special Friend, Bette Odonnell of St. Joseph, Mo.
