IHS Cross Country team scheduled to run Saturday

The 2018 Ipswich cross country teams have been practicing for their Saturday, August 25 9:30 a.m. opener at Mobridge and hopefully won't be satisfied with last year's accomplishments.

In case you don't remember, the 2017 Ipswich cross country program featured a first-place finish in the State B boys' team chase and the IHS girls were second in their team standings. But the 2018 Tigers would like to be in the thick of things again this season. And hopefully that will be true! "Both boys and girls' teams should be in contention by the end of the year," says head coach Todd Thorson. He is being assisted by Kim Kanable.

The 14-member Lady Tigers' team will receive senior leadership from, alphabetically, Kari Kanable, Abby Olson, Aleah Steger (a past state champion) and Ashlee Thorson. Juniors providing additional upper-class leadership are Tessa Kilber and Gabriela Mendonca.

Lily Gaston is the lone sophomore and Emily DeRaad, Makala DeRaad and Chloe Jager are freshmen. Ashlee Ptacek is an eighth-grader and Savanna Coisman, Sommer DeRaad and Kaylin Onken are seventh-grade newcomers.

On the boys side, which consists of eight runners, there's a lone senior in the person of Ben Kulesa and Maxwell Geditz is a junior, so the Tigers are relatively young. Dylan Owens is a sophomore and Taylor Thorson, a freshman. Evan Onken and Turner Thorson are a pair of eighth-graders and Xavier Kadlec and Dylan Wald, seventh-grade hopefuls.

Two home highlights of the regular-season schedule are the Ipswich Tiger Invite on September 8 and then the LRC meet on October 3. The regional meet is set for October 10 in Gettysburg and the State B will be held on October 20 in Sioux Falls.
