Cross Country girls team wins Mobridge meet

Ipswich earned a narrow 12 to 14 girls' varsity cross country team championship over Aberdeen Roncalli last Saturday in Mobridge.

The win was facilitated by four Top 20 individual performances from Lady Tiger runners, featuring Aleah Steger in first at 20:46.35, followed by Tessa Kilber in second place at 21:42.72. The third Top 20 Lady Tiger performer proved to be Emily DeRaad in 12th at 23:25.16 and Kari Kanable was the fourth IHS Top 20 runner, placing 18th among 31 total runners at 24:28.47.

The IHS boys didn't have the required varsity runners for the team title but were represented by two Top 20 runners, Maxwell Geditz in ninth at 19:23.74 and Ben Kulesa, 16th in 20:19.09. There were a total of 35 boys' varsity runners.

Warner topped Timber Lake 17 to 23 for the boys' varsity team title. Jonathan Burkhalter of Bison won the boys' individual honors at 17:34.48 and Rhaecine Sam of Wakpala was next at 17:49.11.

Ipswich is next scheduled to run at Fisher Grove Golf Course east of Redfield on August 30.

A Lady Tiger runner, Lily Gaston, was mistakenly listed as a sophomore in last week’s edition. She is in fact a junior.
