Ipswich/Edmunds Central's Carter Heinz, a junior, was named to the South Dakota Class 9A All-State football team as a defensive tackle. Senior Daniel Braun was also named an honorable mention on the All-State listing.
Regarding Heinz, I-EC coach Brian Hogie commented "Carter put a lot of time in the weight room this off-season and it really showed up on the football field. He played with a high motor on defense and was a very disruptive player." Exactly how disruptive? He finished his junior season with 38 tackles, nine sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. And in his entire career so far, he has recorded 66 tackles and 14 sacks.
He was obviously also an All-LRC player this year. And Braun also obtained that honor before being mentioned in the 9A honorable-mention listing.
Of Braun, Hogie said "Daniel has a great nose for the football both on offense and defense. He was our go to player when we needed a big play in a game."
There are 10 9A All-Staters on offense, 10 on defense and four special teams honorees, plus a total of 10 honorable mentions.
Warner became the other LRC team making the elite 9A listings with a pair of All-Staters and an additional honorable mention.
