Basketball teams dominated by seniors

Both the Ipswich girls and boys basketball program are senior dominated this year and that should spell Experience with a capital E.

The girls are coming off a 2018 Round of 16 sub-state play-off opportunity under coach Brian Hogie and assistant Dan Knust. So they are hoping to be in the post-season mix again this year.

They will be led by no fewer than seven seniors — alphabetically, Olivia Gohl, Abigail Grabowska, Bailey Hammrich, Kamryn Heinz, Sydney Loken, Aleah Steger and Ashlee Thorson.

There are eight senior boys under new head coach Tyler Severson. He is assisted by Todd Thorson. Those Tiger 12th graders are Jared Bjordal, Daniel Braun, Ben Kulesa, Matt Miller, Reece Moehlenbrink, Jacob Nierman, Jadon Onken and Carson Simes.

And the Tiger boys are also hoping to create some post-season havoc.

The girls and boys both open their season at Bowdle vs. Eureka-Bowdle on Dec. 11.

The other 9-11 Lady Tigers include junior Tessa Kilber and a large contingent of sophomores— Hailey Bierman, Halie Feldman, Kate Geditz, Lindsey Grabowska, Halle Heinz, Tarynn Kleffman, Ashton Loken, Chesney Olivier and Bailey Pitz. Emily DeRaad and Izzy McQuarie are the two freshman hopefuls.

Meanwhile, the remainder of the Tiger boys in pre-season practice camp is led by six juniors for additional upper-class leadership. They will include Maxwell Geditz, Ethan Gilbert, William Kadlec, Jordan Richardt, Dillon Weig and Lucas Metzinger. The sophomore boys are Matthew Hettich, Josh McQuarie, Dylan Owens, Eric Severson and Logan Weig.

There are six freshman newcomers— Carson Gohl, who is currently injured, Ty Kadlec, Jordan Nierman, Lance Parks, Luke Peterson and Taylor Thorson.
