It's a little too early to be thinking of that groundhog! Or is it? It seems like he hardly ever sees his shadow these days, because it's either foggy, drizzling, sleeting, snowing (flurries or more), raining (including freezing rain or freezing drizzle), or just plain cloudy. Or all of the above!
So that makes you think that there could possibly be more winter in store for that groundhog (and us)! We had our January thaw earlier in the month and have been paying for that lately. And the snow is starting to pile up a bit and if we get any at all the rest of the month, or February, March or April, it could be interesting in the spring.
In the meantime, though, there have been some athletic events of various sorts along with a postponement or two, as we are progressing through the final third and then fourth of the winter sports seasons. So you start watching the various regional high school basketball standings for a clue of your first night's match-up. Interesting indeed!
Speaking of matches – the Ipswich/Leola/Bowdle wrestling team is scheduled to compete in Groton on Saturday, Jan. 26.
