The Region 2B boys' high school basketball tourney looms big on the horizon with the 2B girls' event already in progress this week.
And not a whole lot can be pinned down regarding the exact bracketing in the two parallel brackets, which will each furnish a 2B champion for the SoDak 16, as of our newspaper deadlines. The regular-season standings determine those regional pairings and several teams, including Ipswich, will have had to play three games this week partially due to weather postponements, according to IHS AD Dan Knust.
Check with other media or the schools if you are in doubt when and where Ipswich will play its first 2B outing.
The tourney begins on Monday with a pair of play-in games each at the homes of the higher seed. Number 8 will play #9 in the top bracket and #7 will play #10 in the bottom bracket. The #8 vs. #9 winner will advance to face the overall number one seed on its home floor on Tuesday and the #7 vs. #10 winner will play at the #2 seed also on Tuesday. Tuesday's other top bracket game will have the #4 seed hosting the #5 seed. The lower bracket's remaining game will feature #3 hosting #6.
The upper and lower bracket championships are both scheduled for Friday, March 1 hosted by the higher seed. All Region 2B games begin at 7 p.m.
The Tiger boys indeed had three regular-season games this week, hosting Sunshine Bible Academy at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19 before the 2B girls' game in Ipswich. The IHS boys will also host Potter County two nights later also at 4 p.m. in case the girls are hosting their 2B bracket championship at 7 p.m. Ipswich then closes out its regular-season boys' schedule at Leola against Leola/Frederick on Friday, Feb. 22.
