Fiddlin' Around

Congratulations to Ipswich's Class B first-team all-state selection Kamryn Heinz. That's a well-deserved honor — that highest level of all-state recognition for a high school hoops player!

While on the subject of recognition for something that doesn't happen all that often, congratulations go to the South Dakota State University women for winning their first two NCAA tournament games and being in the Sweet 16 for the first time ever in the Division 1 program. And good luck in their next go-around on Friday against Oregon in Portland. Meanwhile, the USD women weren't quite able to win their opening NCAA outing with an at-large bid to the event this year, but they certainly had a good season. Both schools feature more than one South Dakota native on their rosters, who see a lot of playing time, including SDSU freshman Paiton Burckhard of Aberdeen Central and USD's Chloe Lamb from Sully Buttes.

It's just about time for outdoor sports, but those snow drifts are certainly taking their time in receding. You guys can just use a fluorescent golf ball, just in case! And if you're shoveling out some places to spin the discus or throw the shot put, you're getting in some weight-lifting practice!
