Ipswich had attended another indoor track and field meet at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen, the Wolves Invite on Tuesday, March 26. It featured a somewhat limited number of events and no team points were kept, but was still well-attended to say the least.
"There were over 1000 athletes entered in this meet," said IHS head coach Todd Thorson. "And the Tigers really had a good day."
How good? The Lady Tigers featured five first-place finishes and the boys, three. And Maxwell Geditz had a hand in all three boys' wins! He won the 400-meter dash in :54.41 and the high jump at 6-04. He was also the lead runner in the boys' winning 4x400 relay, followed by Dylan Owens, Riley Nehlich and Ben Kulesa in 3:48.44.
The IHS girls also won their version of the 4x400, clocked at 4:33.20 and powered by Tessa Kilber, Abby Grabowska, Bailey Hammrich and Taylor Maurer.
Those four individual firsts? Lily Gaston, a recent Aberdeen American News Athlete of the Week last week, won the triple-jump at 33-00.00. Aleah Steger also captured the 1,600-meter run in 5:43.13 and Maurer won the pole vault at 9-06.00. Kamryn Heinz also won the shot put competition with a 10.66 meters effort.
