Edmunds County has been declared a disaster and the state is compiling cost estimates to see if South Dakota will qualify for a Presidential Disaster Declaration.
Leland Treichel, Edmunds County Emergency Manager, is requesting that any township or city that has damage or additional costs from the March blizzard or the resulting flooding contact him immediately at 605-287-4394 or provide an email address at edmundscountyem@ yahoo.com.
Treichel said he was informed Monday afternoon that the reporting period for the blizzard and flooding has been extended a week due to the projected severe winter storm coming this week. They feel that this next storm may dump up to two feet of snow in some areas Treichel said.
Edmunds County must meet a dollar amount threshold to qualify according to Treichel. Estimated costs for damages, additional labor, and related expenses are needed. Photos of damage are also required. Information packages are available in a fillable format and need to be completed and submitted as soon as possible as there is a state deadline.
Call or contact Leland if there are questions regarding this issue.
