Local member serves as P.E.O. State President

While many were celebrating this year's Trail Days events, Deanne Hoyle was entering a new exciting year for her in Mitchell.

Saturday morning, June 8 Deanne was sworn in as the new president of the South Dakota P.E.O. organization. There are 96 Chapters in the state with approximately 3600 members.

The Ipswich P.E.O. Chapter organized in 1942. Deanne became a member in 1990. She became a state officer a few years ago and has been serving in different positions on her way to the top.

P.E.O. is an international organization that gives educational opportunities to women. They have grants and scholarship for high school girls as well as women returning to schooling after taking a break.

Deanne's theme for her year-long presidency is "Remember, Celebrate, Anticipate!".

In her remarks to the members at the State Convention she highlighted each. The P.E.O. Sisterhood was founded 150 years ago at the Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Ia. by seven students. Deanne will join P.E.O. members in September in DesMoines, Ia. for their celebration of their roots. "In September, over 50 P.E.O.'s from South Dakota will join thousands of women in Des Moines," Deanne said.

Deanne is the fourth Ipswich P.E.O. to serve as State President. They were Ipswich Chapter founder, Muriel Brown, as well as Marie Bebermeyer and Carol Holdhusen.

Deanne thanked the Ipswich members for their support and help over the years. She said the support she received at the convention was awesome. She had a nice surprise when she looked over the audience before she was sworn in and saw her three children - Joe, Travis and Ruthie.

She concluded her remarks by saying, "As I serve in the role of S.D. president in the year ahead, please join with me as we Remember our roots, celebrate our blossoms and anticipate where our seeds will fall."
