The Library Remembers When...

MAIN STREET SPEEDERS

Ipswich speeders are again hit with an epidemic to make Main Street, and in fact every street in town a race track-and by this notice are given warning. The speeder is nothing but a damn fool with his foot on the gas. He has an idea that is his presence is not at a certain place at a certain time, a great calamity will happen and when he gets there, there’s nothing to do but wait.

Then there is the fellow who cuts corners. Some think the silent policemen are just a street decoration. And there’s a garage man or two, or someone who works in a garage who has an idea that the street are for demonstrating purposes, feeling that a little more speed and their machines would fly and put Lindy on the back pages of the dailies.

Then we have another class-he’s the truck driver. Seems to think because his outfit has lots of power and weight, has certain privileges that he can race up and down the street.

Yes, and then there’s the fellow who has to get to church Sunday. He makes all corners on two wheels. He’s due for a pick up within a week or two along with the rest of these outlaws. The people are getting mighty tired of this matter, fellows and you stepping on the officials tails and you are going to see some action.

We also have another outlaw, he’s the fellow who’s using his friends automobile license. Then the fellow who is still driving with his 1926 plates and the one with the 1925 plates-but the officers are only a block behind this guy.

Yes, everytown has their speeders but look them over, sum them up-take these same guys and watch ‘em drive in Aberdeen. You’d think they were angels. They know they can’t get by down there.
