Cross Country season begins Friday

The IHS cross country season kicks off on Friday, August 30 in Pierre for the respective Ipswich cross country teams, followed by a trip to Redfield on September 5 (Ipswich's first home meet will be hosted on September 14 at Split Rock).

Another home event will be the LRC get-together on October 9. And that will indeed usher in the post-season action with the regionals set for Gettysburg on October 16, followed by the state meets at Huron on October 26.

Each Tiger team is relatively youthful this season with one lone senior girl and boy to lead their respective rosters, Tessa Kilber on the girls' side and Maxwell Geditz for the IHS boys.

The girls have a trio of sophomores, Emily DeRaad, Makala DeRaad and Chloe Jager. Ashley Ptacek, meanwhile, is the lone IHS freshman girl and there are currently no eighth-grade girls out for cross country. But no fewer than three seventh-graders could be seeing their first taste of high school girls' competition. They are, alphabetically, Sommer DeRaad, Ashlinn Hartwell and Kaylin Onken.

Joining Maxwell Geditz on the boys' roster will be sophomore Taylor Thorson. Evan Onken and Turner Thorson are ninth-graders. Xavier Kadlec and Dylan Wald are eighth-grade hopefuls for the Tiger boys, as well.

And some sixth-grade girls eligible for JV action are Natalie Crissman, Ava Davis, Madisyn Gelhaus, Gracyn Kadlec and Gabrielle Wald.

Todd Thorson is again the 2019 head coach, assisted by Tadd Thorson.
