Darwin Ulmer

Mass of Christian Burial for Darwin Ulmer, 78, of Aberdeen and formerly of Roscoe, was at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen. Fr. Patrick Grode will serve as Celebrant of the Mass.  Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery in Hosmer with Fr. Timothy Smith presiding.

Darwin Ulmer was born on April 6, 1941 in the family farmhouse near Hosmer.  Darwin attended country School through the eighth grade and graduated from Hosmer High School in 1959.  He attended Northern State College in Aberdeen while working as a welder on the roof at the South Dakota School for the Blind.

On April 3, 1961 he was united in marriage to Kay Krumm and together they were blessed with five children. Darwin farmed near Hosmer his entire life until moving to Aberdeen in 2017. Darwin had a very creative mind and enjoyed working on a variety of projects.

Darwin died Friday, December 20, 2019 at his residence.

He will forever be loved and greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Kay; his children, Tera (Rob) Martin of Roscoe, Kris (Steve) Scherr of Roscoe, Brad (Paulette) Ulmer of Watertown, and Tricia (Rob) Grajczyk of Eureka; siblings, Laura Dewald of Sioux Falls, Evelyn Twite of DeSmet, Ileen (Doug) Lindner of Warroad, Minn., Patty (John) Beyers of Roscoe and Carolyn (Don) Lang of Aberdeen; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Darwin was preceded in death by his son, Russel and parents Rupert and Orma (Gross) Ulmer.
