Ipswich got in some boys' high school basketball action last week with a 66-50 non-conference win at Miller last Friday.
The Tiger boys indeed jumped out to a solid 19-13 first-quarter advantage and then fashioned a 23-14 second-quarter edge to further their lead. Miller countered with a 10-8 third-quarter edge, which would prove to be overshadowed by Ipswich's 16-13 scoring lead during the final quarter.
Ipswich's largest lead in the game was 19 points late in that quarter. Miller's largest lead (early in the game) was only three points.
Ipswich received scoring help from nine different players led by Will Kadlec's 16 points including a trey. Next in the scoring line, also in double figures that evening was Eric Severson with 12 points, followed by Josh McQuarie and Max Geditz with eight points apiece. Geditz included a pair of treys and McQuarie a lone trey. Taylor Thorson was right behind them with seven points that included a trey and Ethan Gilbert tallied six points that included a trey. (He also dished out seven of his team's 20 assists, followed by McQuarie with six assists.) Tucker Green added four points. Matt Hettich also featured a trey for his three points and Jordan Richardt claimed two points for the Tiger cause.
Miller countered with eight different scorers, led by Spencer Fernholz's game-high 17 points. He was followed by Trevor Wendel and Tyler Schumacher with 10 points each to both also climb the double-figure scoring ladder.
Ipswich made 27 baskets including the seven treys and was 5-10 in free throw opportunities. Miller's corresponding numbers were 17 baskets, featuring six treys and a 10-13 free throw night.
The Tigers out-rebounded the Rustlers 28-23. One reason for that was McQuarie with nine rebounds. The Tigers committed 14 turnovers; Miller, 18. And 12 of those were directly caused by Tiger steals.
Ipswich is next scheduled to travel to Sunshine Bible Academy on February 13 for a boys' game only and will then host a girls/boys twinbill vs. Sully Buttes on Friday, Feb. 14.
