Heinz earns eighth place at State B

Ipswich Area varsity wrestling senior Carter Heinz matched his eighth-place finish in last year's State B mat event with another eighth-place effort this past weekend in Sioux Falls. Heinz compiled a 2-3 record in the 195-lb. division, good for eight team points, placing the Ipswich/Leola/Bowdle contingent in 35th place in the individual team-standing point race.

Canton won the individual tourney 240.5 to 173 over the runners-up from Winner Area. The third-place team, representing our own regional, was Redfield with 92.5 team points.

Heinz got off to a great start with a :44 quick-pin win over Cole Pranger of Mt. Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney. But he was pinned late in his second match in 4:58 by Canton grappler Cullon Rutten, the eventually 195-champion. That pitted Heinz against Charley Pravecek of Winner Area and Heinz came away with another quick pin (:54). Heinz would then face Sam Adams of Harding County and sustained a 7-2 setback. That landed him into a seventh- vs. eighth-place placement match on Saturday, won by Cade Entwisle of McCook Central/Montrose with a 1:31 pin.

Ipswich Area also sent Lucas Roland as an alternate at 285 and he got to wrestle a pair of matches. Roland was pinned in 1:16 by Micah DeBoer of Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon and Rowland then dropped a 9-2 decision to Avery Nichols of Clark/Willow Lake.
