The effects of the coronavirus have been felt from local sports events being postponed and/or cancelled from small kids events right on up through high school varsity and college and then the NBA. And apparently now MLB, postponed as well!
The girls State B in Spearfish was postponed with only the opening days’ action in the scorebook, including our Region 2B reps from Faulkton who sustained a narrow two-possession setback by the reigning champions DeSmet. (That was the Trojans first ever trip to the B and they dropped down into the consolation bracket.)
The entire State B Boys Tournament, that was scheduled in Aberdeen March 19-21, was postponed.
The Lake Region Conference was to be represented by Aberdeen Christian in its own initial appearance in the Boys State B. The Knights had easily handled LRC’s Warner in a SoDak 16 game. Meanwhile our own Region 2B will be represented by Sully Buttes, an impressive victor over another 2B member Herreid/Selby Area in their SoDak 16 confrontation. (These programs also both represented the Yellowstone Trail Conference!)
The first day’s B schedule was to have been number 1 DeSmet vs. #8 Faith at noon, #4 Platte-Geddes vs. #5 White River at 1:45 p.m.; #2 Aberdeen Christian vs. #7 Canistota at 6 p.m. and #3 Viborg-Hurley vs. #6 Sully Buttes at 7:45 p.m.
